The structure of the matter in organisms, the brain, defines the identity of the consciousness. The energy in living creatures becomes awareness in the nerve cells.
Consciousness is like a finer state of electricity. Electricity becomes consciousness, and consciousness is a form of energy. Our thoughts and the images we have in our brains are energy. They are stored in our brain in the form of codes produced by protein molecules in our brain cells . The moment we die, the energy and matter are disconnected and we are gone. The energy and matter go back to the Universe, but our consciousness is gone.
The identity we take is like an illusion, the core of our consciousness contains nothing! No soul, no spirit, nothing!
The entire Universe was born out of nothing, as a spontaneous reaction, so being nothing is not that bad!
Comparison of human consciousness with an awareness/consciousness in a computer (Artificial Intelligence)
We are getting closer and closer to an artificial intelligence (AI) with awareness and a kind of consciousness. It is still science fiction but it is on our doorstep.
I would like to make a comparison between the awareness in a computer and in a human. Of course it is different in the matter where it is made of, but there are some very interesting similarities too.
Lets assume we have a computer with a program and algorithms that produces an AI with a consciousness. To produce an AI we need 3 important parts : hardware, software and electricity. First the hardware is all the computer is made off screen, cables, buttons and especially silicon where all the information and processes are done. To make it easier to explain, let’s say that all of the hardware is Silicon. The hardware or Silicon is where the programs and algorithms are run. We can compare this with our brain that is consisted of billions of brain cells.
Second, the software, are the programs and algorithms that are put in the Silicon. We can compare this with our upbringing, the learning processes from child to adult. All the interactions with the outside world, experiences, information gathering and processing. We should not forget the genetically info we receive during our creation from our parents. And all the information to run the biological processes in our body, the instincts, reflexes and more.
The third part is the energy, in this case electricity that will make the computer work and bring the AI to life. We can compare the electricity with the energy that is produced in our metabolism to make our organism and brain work. Actually, our brain processes work on electricity that is running through our brains via the brain cell synapses.
What is this consciousness we are talking about?
We can say that the awareness/consciousness in the AI exists of energy and matter. In this case electricity and Silicon with the software (hardware and software). If there is no electricity the computer is “dead” and there is no more consciousness. The consciousness and identity of the AI is a combination of electricity and Silicon. If one of the 2 is absent there is no consciousness. The consciousness and the identity it takes is non-existent, if both components don’t work together. We can say that the consciousness does not exist as something independent. If the computer (hardware) or the electricity is not there, there is no more consciousness, it is just gone, disappeared into nothing. We can compare this with the human consciousness and identity we take, it is not independent from the combination of energy created by our metabolism and matter, our human body. It is also non-existing if both parts don’t work together.
Dying is like waking up out of a dream and becoming the entire Universe, everything and all that is in it.
Dying is like coming home where we came from, the ocean, the Universe.
The law of conservation of energy means that energy can never be destroyed, it will only go (transform) from 1 state to another state. The potential energy in wood will change to heat and light once you make a fire with it. Or movement can become electricity via a dynamo. The energy that is produced in our metabolism becomes electricity in our brain cells and becomes consciousness. When we die we disappear with the energy. We can say that our consciousness is formed by energy in our brain cells, we are energy.
All of the Universe is energy. (see quote Einstein)
“Energy cannot be created or destroyed, it can only be changed from one form to another.”
