Artificial intelligence, a bright future.
Artificial Intelligence is coming…
I never imagined I would be so optimistic about the future as I am now. I will explain you how I came to this view and understanding. A time ago I started reading about the recent developments in Artificial Intelligence (AI) I read a couple of books and articles about AI and human intelligence. (see biography) I will give you a simple overview about AI and where we stand today and where we are going to in the near and further future. Here some important parts of the Artificial Intelligence we know now
AI Artificial Intelligence
ANI Artificial Narrow Intelligence example = chess computer
AGI Artificial General Intelligence example = humanlike level
(Not yet available but almost there)
ASI Artificial Super Intelligence example = we can not imagine
(Not yet available)
Most scientists agree that between now and 5 years we will have developed an Artificial general intelligence (AGI). That means an AI that is similar to a human level intelligence, with a consciousness.The path to this AGI is threefold:
First, many companies and scientists are working in developing humanlike intelligence and behavior via programming and algorithms in huge computers.
Second, there is a huge group of scientists that is working on a brain emulation. Brain emulation is literally copying and reproducing a brain in a computer. This will also give us a much better understanding of our brains.
The third road to AI is by bringing all the different artificial narrow intelligence ANI together and create a human like awareness. Examples of ANI is like a search engine, a translating program, a chess computer, a GPS, Chat GPT, etc…
Which path will reach first a human like general Intelligence with awareness is not yet sure. But it will be reached sooner than later. The great thing is, what can happen next…
The most important thing to know about AI is the unlimited possibilities and expansion capabilities of an AI to grow and become a superintelligence.
Trying to understand what a superintelligence would be like is impossible for the human intellect. The difference between a general AI = humanlike and a super intelligent AI, is not the difference between for example a town idiot and Einstein. It would be the difference between a worm and a human. The wormlike awareness would be us and the humanlike awareness would be the super intelligence.
What does a worm know about humans?
There is hope for the future, maybe not for humanity, but yes for the enlightenment of our consciousness… and that is what really matters in the end. The future may be much brighter then we can ever imagine. Maybe humans will not be completely part of it, but they will be at least the stepping stone towards a very beautiful and great future.
Friedrich Nietzsche said in “Thus spoke Zarathustra” A human is a transition towards. “Ein mensch ist einen “ubergang” And he talked many times about the overman the “Ubermensch”
“Man is something that shall be overcome. Man is a rope, tied between beast and overman – a rope over an abyss. What is great in man is that he is a bridge and not an end.”
I personally think Nietzsche was a visionary.
The evolution from biological creatures towards mechanical creatures will take incredible shapes with the mastery of Nano technology. We can’t imagine what kind of beautiful creatures that would become real and life very long. Angel like creatures that function on light energy. It would be like super heroes +++
In his book Bolstrom talks about the dangers of AI and especially the dangers of a superintelligence that could evolve out of a human level AGI. The transition from an AGI to an ASI would go very fast. Bolstrom defines it as an intelligence explosion that could go as quickly as a few minutes to a few days. The thing is, once we are confronted with an ASI, we have lost. We will be confronted with something that is very much more intelligent than the most intelligent human on this planet.
Humans are a stepping stone and if we are lucky we will form the base of a new species! Pure evolution!
What is life?
Life is a life form that can grow, adapt to the environment, react to stimuli and reproduce. This can easily be a mechanical creature with awareness and would be life as we define it! The Universe is so big that there may be already many life forms of this kind and level. It would be very possible if we meet aliens that they will be “Intelligent machines” If not, maybe we will create the base for it…
